When it comes to schools, corridors are busy all day, classroom doors get propped open, and the same doorsets that need to pass a fire test also need to handle daily use from hundreds of students without failing prematurely. Our fire doors for schools are third-party certified and supplied pre-hung, which simplifies installation and removes ambiguity around compliance. Barking Abbey School

A new two-storey classroom block and sixth-form centre have been added to Barking Abbey School in Dagenham.

 

The development achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating, with energy efficiency and fire safety central to the brief. Contractor Neillcott Construction specified our doorsets as part of that approach.

 

Over 100 pre-hung doorsets were supplied over a 40-week phased programme, including FD30 and FD60 options with 35 dB acoustic performance.

The rollout programme for the Secure Premises Information Box™ (PIB)® System was led by the University Fire Safety Manager, in partnership with Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service.

 

“This has been about developing partnerships – using a recognised system to safeguard our own interests and also provide access to essential information to enhance firefighter safety and, if necessary, expedite the conduct of operations. These aspects are important to us, and we will continue to audit, develop and improve these arrangements to the benefit of everyone who needs to resort to our buildings.”

 

The PIB system gives fire crews immediate access to building layouts and emergency information on arrival, which is particularly valuable on large university campuses where building complexity can slow response time.

Enfield Speciality Doors worked with Morgan Sindall on a new-build student accommodation project at the Arts University Bournemouth. The project included 297 student bedrooms across 11 blocks, with 1,000 fire doors supplied in a Maple veneer crown-cut finish.

 

Designed to provide 30 minutes of fire resistance and 29 dB acoustics, the doorsets offer a practical solution for student accommodation where noise between rooms is a real concern.
