The Project

Network Homes take ownership and responsibility seriously and this includes fire safety measures. After learning about the Premises Information Box™ (PIB)® System at International Firex, Network Homes took steps to enquire about installing PIB’s on their 31 HRRB’s (High Rise Residential Buildings).  An interest was expressed in the need for the provision of premises plans and information to the Fire and Rescue Service through the High Security Steel (HSS) PIBs. 

The Response

Through benchmarking Network Homes were aware that Brent Housing Partnership had recently had their floor plans developed by GERDA.  Network Homes were particularly interested in the preparation of the premises plans to help the Fire and Rescue Service make a rapid assessment of the premises layout. In particular, the identification of safety features and fire control systems to help them deal with an emergency and locate any hazards that might impact the situation or cause harm to residents and fire fighters. 

In the Government Guidance on the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, plans and specifications are identified as an aid both to fire risk assessment and to the Fire & Rescue Service in the event of a fire.

 

The Outcome

To date Network Homes have installed 31 GERDA HSS PIBs along with premises plans and information for immediate access for attending fire crews. The plans were drawn up through a partner organisation of GERDA who specialise in the collation of these types of plans.

The Premises Information Box (PIB)® System has been adopted by a variety of organizations in the UK, and the concept is supported by the insurance industry and fire consultants.
