Smoke control maintenance

Gerda’s ranges of fire and smoke rated doorsets are designed to perform the vial task of preventing the passage of smoke during a fire.

The doorset below underwent a severe fire which melted the floor.  The smoke damage can be seen to the fire side of the door. The door operated as designed, protecting the compartmented area and preventing the seepage of smoke.  It continued to function until it was replaced.

Gerda fully tests its fire doorset ranges in large scale smoke tests at UKAS  accredited test houses to EN1634-3:2004. This includes doorsets and large screens and side panels as well as fanlights.  It is vitally important to ensure that fire doors not only prevent fire but also smoke.  For that reason Gerda’s maintenance teams are fully trained in how to check for the condition of the intumescents of the fire doorset ranges.

It is extremely important that any replacement intumescent seals that are damaged are correctly replaced with the exact type supplied for the factory fitted doorset and are in accordance with the fire test remit.
